Union and FDP's deindustrialization concerns expressed by Özdemir
In a recent statement, Cem Özdemir, the Green party's transport politician, has raised concerns about the future of cities like Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, and Ingolstadt, comparing their potential outcomes to the fate of Detroit.
Özdemir, a vocal critic of the Union (CDU) and FDP, has urged voters who wish to preserve these cities as economic regions to reconsider their voting choices. He fears that the current stance of these parties on modernization could lead to deindustrialization, particularly in car cities.
The current German Transport Minister, Patrick Schnieder, represents the Union (CDU). Özdemir suggests that electing a transport minister from a different party, specifically one not affiliated with the CSU, would be crucial for effective modernization. He emphasizes that half of the new transport minister's task will be good communication of modernization plans to avoid potential Yellow Vest protests and an AfD entry into works councils.
In his statement, Özdemir also stressed the importance of electromobility as the main drive, a decision he believes has already been made. He compared the potential outcomes for Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, and Ingolstadt to the fate of Detroit, urging for proactive measures to ensure the continued prosperity of these cities.
Özdemir further stated that it is an act of patriotism to ensure that the next transport minister is not from the CSU. He believes that this move would be essential in steering these cities towards a sustainable and modern future.
These warnings come as the Green party continues to gain support in Germany, particularly among younger voters. As the election approaches, Özdemir's concerns about the future of car cities like Stuttgart, Wolfsburg, and Ingolstadt will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion.
