In a nail-biting conclusion, Cooper High School emerged victorious against the second-ranked team in the state, Ryle, with a final score of 20-13. The game, played in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Ryle, was a non-district match for Cooper, who were 0-2 at the time.

The turning point of the game came in the final 15.0 seconds, when Keegan Maher took the opportunity to run for a game-winning touchdown. Maher, often told that he's too small for football, answered these doubts with his performance in the game. He had 20 carries for 90 yards during the game, accounting for 97 of Cooper's 97 ground yards.

The win was set up by senior kicker Eyler Tibbs, who nailed two 24-yard field goals for Cooper, tying the game at 13-13 late. Tibbs also kicked a 29-yard field goal to give Cooper a 16-13 lead, but the score was later adjusted due to an offside penalty on Ryle.

Ryker Campbell, a senior at Cooper, played a pivotal role in the game. He had a 67-yard interception touchdown and leads the state in interceptions. Campbell admitted that he knew what was coming on the interception because they had worked on it in practice.

The Cooper defense, including player Graham, held their ground against the larger Ryle players. Cam O'Hara completed 15 of 25 passes for 136 yards for Cooper. Keagan Maher also caught a 25-yard pass from O'Hara to the Ryle 15 with a minute left in the game.

Cooper coach Randy Borchers expressed his desire for more time, specifically three weeks, before the start of district play. The search results do not contain information about a high school football team from Union playing against Cooper High School last week.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Cooper High School, as they continue to make their mark in the competitive world of high school football. The team will look to build on this momentum as they head into the district season.
