University city of Marburg marked with flag in September 2025 event
In the picturesque University Town of Marburg, a series of significant days are approaching, each with its unique history and purpose. Let's take a closer look at these days and how they will be celebrated.
The annual celebration of the Day of the Homeland in the Federal Republic has its roots in drawing attention to the situation of expellees. This day, initially launched on August 6th, 1950, also serves as the Memorial Day for the Victims of Flight, Expulsion, and Deportation. The town hall in Marburg will fly the municipal flag on August 6th to mark this day.
World Peace Day, also known as "Anti-War Day," is another important day commemorated in Marburg. Originating from the November Revolution of 1918/19, this day was initiated by pacifist peace organizations to remember the horrors of World War I. The flag display for World Peace Day will commence at 7 am and continue until dusk on September 1st. The town hall will be flagged on both September 1st and 23rd to honour this day.
World Children's Day, observed on September 20th, is a day dedicated to children's rights and the future of our world. UNICEF Germany and the German Children's Aid Organization are organizing a nationwide participatory action for this day. Children and young people can submit their demands and ideas on children's rights for this action, with the submissions to be used to recreate a monument for democracy in Berlin on World Children's Day. The town hall in Marburg will be flagged on September 20th in observance of this day.
Lastly, World Bisexuality Day, or "Celebrate Bisexuality Day," has been observed since 1999. This day aims to highlight that bisexuality is an independent sexual orientation alongside heterosexuality and homosexuality. The town hall in Marburg will fly the flag on September 23rd to mark this day.
