University of Louisiana to honor golfer Ainley with Hall of Fame induction

Richard Ainley to be Inducted into University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Athletics Hall of Fame Via Zoom

Richard Ainley, a professional golfer from Nakuru Golf Club, is set to be inducted into the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's (UL) Athletics Hall of Fame. The ceremony, originally planned for an in-person event, will now take place via Zoom due to a delay in securing travel documents.

Ainley, who remains the all-time leader in career scoring average at UL, has an impressive golf career spanning close to 50 years. During his college career, he set records that still stand today and holds the all-time school standard for individual tournament victories with four.

In his first year at UL, Ainley made a significant impact, winning the Sun Belt Conference individual medalist title as a junior in 2000. He remains one of two Cajuns to achieve this feat, joining fellow UL Hall of Famer Trey Coker.

Ainley's senior scoring average mark was never broken until last year, demonstrating his consistent and exceptional performance throughout his college career. His induction recognises this remarkable college career.

Eric Nderitu, Chairman of Nakuru Golf Club, congratulated Ainley on his upcoming induction. Nderitu noted, "Richard's achievements in golf are truly remarkable, and his induction into the UL Athletics Hall of Fame is well-deserved."

Billy Mogg, another golfer from Nakuru Golf Club, was inducted into UL's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021 before starting his professional golf career. The induction ceremony for Ainley is scheduled for September 5.

Ainley's golf career has been marked by numerous accolades and achievements. His induction into UL's Athletics Hall of Fame is a testament to his enduring legacy as a standout golfer for the university. Despite the change in format due to travel constraints, the ceremony is set to celebrate Ainley's remarkable career and contributions to golf.
