"Unlawful Actions": Polish Border Closure Prompts Response From Foreign Ministry in Regard to Belarus
Poland has announced the closure of its border with Belarus, effective from Thursday, September 11. The decision, made by Polish authorities, comes in response to the Belarusian-Russian exercise "Zapad-2025."
The Polish Interior Minister, Mariusz KamiΕski, made the announcement citing concerns about state security. However, no specific details about the resumption of border services have been provided.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Poland has commented on the decision, stating that the border closure is causing significant difficulties for the normal functioning of international people and goods movement. The MFA also described the border closure as "unfounded," given the openness and transparency of the Belarusian exercises to the international community.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry, on the other hand, described Poland's actions as an "obvious abuse" of its geographical position and a "privatization" of the borders of the EU and the EAEC. They expressed concern over the actions of Poland, stating that it is affecting many states, both in the East and the West.
The MFA further suggested that the temporary suspension of passage indicates an intention to conceal its own actions rather than the presence of any threat from Belarus. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry also stated that Poland's actions are harming many states.
The cancellation of bus services to Poland due to the border closure has been announced by the carriers. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Poland has lodged an oral protest regarding the border closure, and the Polish Charge d'Affaires, Krzysztof OΕΌanna, was summoned to the MFA.
The border closure includes the railway crossing, and the MFA noted that the illegal measures taken by one country are effectively affecting the entire border of the European Union with Belarus. The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has expressed its disapproval of Poland's actions, stating that it is a violation of international law and cooperation.
As of now, there is no information available regarding the duration of the temporary border closure with Belarus announced by Polish authorities. The situation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as they become available.
