Unscrupulous faith healers deceive their spouses financially.
In the heart of Detmold, Lange Straße, an unsettling incident unfolded on August 12, 2025, involving two unknown women and a 65-year-old resident of the city. The Lippe Police Department has since issued a warning to the public, urging caution when dealing with strangers.
The two mysterious women, both of whom were around 35 and 45 years old, had dark and brown medium-length hair, and spoke in Russian. They claimed to be healers and promised to lift a curse, a claim that left the 65-year-old victim vulnerable to their deception.
The women, who are yet to be publicly identified, convinced the victim that a relative of hers was cursed and would soon meet a tragic end if she didn't take action. In return for a low five-digit sum of cash, the victim received a "magical" envelope. However, the next day, she found only newspaper and a bar of chocolate inside.
The incident took a turn when the victim handed over the money to the scammers at the Weerth School in Siegfriedstraße. The Criminal Investigation Unit 6 is now appealing for witnesses who can provide information about the scammers to call (05231) 6090.
Fax inquiries can be made to 05231 / 609-5095, and email inquiries can be sent to [email protected]. For further information, the Lippe Police Press Office can be contacted at 05231 / 609 - 5050.
The Lippe Police Department urges the public not to hand over money to strangers, especially if they claim to be healers or promise miraculous cures. This warning comes in response to the recent scam involving the two unknown women and the 65-year-old victim from Detmold.
One of the women was about 35, somewhat overweight, had dark hair tied in a ponytail, and called herself Maria. The other woman, around 45 years old, had brown hair and wore a long beige dress. Both women were seen wearing long beige dresses during the incident.
Stay vigilant, Detmold and Lippe. Let's work together to keep our community safe.
