Unsolvable Issues with the U.S. under Trump's Presidency, According to Iran's Leadership
In recent weeks, the nuclear talks between Iran and the United States have been a topic of heated discussion. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, has ruled out a political agreement with the U.S. under President Donald Trump, maintaining a firm stance against resuming the nuclear talks.
Khamenei has expressed that the problems with the U.S. are insoluble and are now about obedience and surrender. He accuses Trump of inciting Israel and supporting it in attacking Iran to force a political change. These allegations come after the Israeli attacks on strategic targets in Iran during the June war, which caused significant damage to Iran's nuclear and military facilities.
Since the June attacks, Khamenei has rarely appeared in public. Speculations suggest that he may have hidden in a bunker due to fears of an Israeli assassination attempt. The Iranian government, however, claims to have won the war despite the damage, with Khamenei stating that the Iranian people will resolutely oppose any "disgusting demand" from the U.S.
The economic situation of oil-rich Iran could be exacerbated if the nuclear talks are not resumed and sanctions are imposed. If the talks are not resumed, Iran faces potential sanctions that could worsen its already dire economic situation. The economic struggles are further compounded by energy and water shortages, which could potentially lead to internal unrest.
Hardliners in Iran's parliament are strictly against resuming nuclear talks with the U.S., adding to the complexity of the situation. President Massoud Peschkani and his government, however, do not rule out continuing the nuclear talks with the U.S.
The potential resumption of nuclear talks with the U.S. could be met with opposition from hardliners in Iran, potentially leading to further tension. Another military strike by Israel is also feared if the nuclear talks are not resumed.
Khamenei has made it clear that he is not fundamentally against negotiations, but not under Trump's conditions. His stance on the nuclear talks with the U.S. remains unclear due to his absence, adding another layer of uncertainty to the ongoing situation.
