Moths, the nocturnal counterparts of butterflies, are a captivating and diverse group of insects. With over 160,000 species worldwide, they come in a myriad of shapes, sizes, and colours, each with its unique characteristics.
In North America, the garden tiger moth and giant leopard moth stand out with their bright colours and bold patterns. These striking creatures serve as visual warnings of their toxicity or unpalatability. Emerging in early summer, they share the continent with the Luna moth, a green moth native to eastern North America, known for its large wings, long tails, and short lifespan of only a few days to a week.
