Unveiling of TfW's innovative T51 bus service for TrawsCymru
New TrawsCymru T51 Bus Service to Launch in September 2022
Starting this September, a new bus service will connect communities between Rhyl and Wrexham as part of the Network North Wales initiative. The TrawsCymru T51 service, operated by Arriva Cymru, will replace the existing 51/X51 services and offer improved connectivity, higher frequencies, and lower fares.
The new service has been shaped through close collaboration with Transport for Wales, local authorities, and customers, ensuring it meets the needs of the communities it serves. From September 2025, the service will include hourly buses between Ruthin and Wrexham with simplified fares and digital ticketing options.
From March 2026, the TrawsCymru T51 service will integrate with rail services and other TrawsCymru routes, providing even better connectivity across the region. The service will also be supported by an hourly service between Wrexham and Rhyl on a Sunday.
Adam Marshall, Head of Commercial at Arriva Cymru, expressed his excitement about joining the Traws Cymru family with the commencement of the T51 service this September. He stated, "We are looking forward to providing a modern, accessible, and sustainable service that will benefit the communities we serve."
No information was given about potential changes to the bus service outside of the Rhyl-Wrexham route. However, the new service will replace existing vehicles with modern, accessible vehicles designed for comfort and sustainability, starting from September 2022.
The achievements and innovations in public transport planning will be recognized at the fourth annual CiTTi Awards on 25 November 2025 at De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms in London. The TrawsCymru T51 service is expected to be among the honourees for its contribution to improving public transport in Wales.
For more information about the TrawsCymru T51 service, please visit the Arriva Cymru website or contact your local authority. The details for dates before September 2025 have not been provided yet.
