Following an assessment of their magazine operations, the editorially autonomous publishing division of a national science agency – our publishing partner – has taken the tough decision to implement changes.

Unveiling the Evolution of Our Platform: What's Coming Next

Following a comprehensive assessment of its magazine business, the editorially independent publishing division of Australia's national science agency, our publishing partner, has announced that the production of our platform, Cosmos, will cease as of June 2025. This decision encompasses both print and digital subscriptions, with refunds being issued to all subscribers for their remaining terms.

The final print edition of Cosmos will be published in June 2025. Concurrently, digital subscriptions will also conclude at this time. Refund procedures vary depending on the method of subscription purchase. For example, if your subscription was directly purchased from our publishing partner through a credit card, the card owner's account will be credited for the balance of the subscription. For subscriptions purchased via the Royal Institution of Australia prior to June 2024, please contact us at [email protected] or call 1300 788000 to arrange a refund.

The Cosmos online news service will persist at cosmosmagazine.com, transitioning later in the year to our publishing partner's new digital destination for science content. This platform, designed to showcase peer-reviewed journals, e-books, and fact-based science news, aim to bring together analytical audiences for a sustainable future. A news team will be recruited to continue chronicling the latest science discoveries and conducting interviews with scientists.

This strategic shift in media consumption is mirrored by a broader trend, as audiences gravitate towards online platforms due to escalating print magazine production costs and an ongoing change in reader preferences.

We extend our gratitude to all the writers, staff, and readers who have supported Cosmos Magazine over the years. It is our hope that you will continue to stay engaged with Cosmos Online News Service through our newsletters, as we embark on this exciting new chapter for science communication.
