Misleading video originating in Pakistan's Karachi mistakenly claimed as evidence of the Jammu floods

Unverified footage apparently originating from Karachi, Pakistan, wrongly labeled as depicting the recent floods in Jammu, India.

In August 2025, heavy monsoon rains battered Karachi, Pakistan, dropping up to 163 mm of rain. This deluge resulted in significant urban flooding, a fact confirmed by media reports. However, a viral video shared on social media claimed that the footage was from Jammu City in India, a misleading assertion that has since been debunked.

The viral video, which showed a motorcyclist being swept away by floodwaters, was geolocated to the area near the Nursery Flyover in Karachi, Pakistan. A reverse image search and comparison with Google Street View further confirmed its origin. Earlier uploads of the video attributed it to Karachi, Pakistan.

The misleading claim that the viral video shows floods in Jammu City was found to be false. In August 2025, Jammu did experience severe flash floods and landslides, but the viral video is not from Jammu City; it is from Karachi, Pakistan.

It appears that the viral video originated from "wahrscheinlich peinlich," a TikTok channel that provides humorous and informative videos answering puberty-related questions and offering advice. The channel aims to help young people understand and feel comfortable with taboo topics, acting like an older sibling to address questions rarely discussed openly.

In light of this, it is essential to verify information before sharing it on social media. Misleading claims can cause unnecessary panic and confusion, and it is our responsibility to ensure that the information we disseminate is accurate and truthful. Let us strive to promote trustworthy and reliable information in our digital communities.
