Upcoming Launch of TVS's Economical Electric Scooter Model, Potential Branding Under Jupiter Name?
In a strategic move, Indian automobile giant TVS is reportedly working on a new electric scooter, expected to be launched during the festive season. This new offering is designed to be more affordable compared to its current electric scooter, the TVS iQube, and even more budget-friendly than the Bajaj Chetak 3503.
The strategy to use the Jupiter brand name for the new electric scooter makes sense, given that Jupiter is TVS's strongest scooter brand. If this turns out to be the case, it's likely that the iQube will be positioned in the entry-level premium EV segment, while the new scooter could cater to a wider audience seeking an affordable electric vehicle.
The upcoming electric scooter might not boast extensive features, but it could be very convenient and practical for day-to-day activities, similar to the TVS Jupiter. The LCD console could be simple with limited connectivity features, and the electric motor might be less powerful. However, these trade-offs could result in a more affordable price point, with the scooter expected to be priced around or under ₹1 lakh, significantly lower than the TVS iQube 2.2 kWh variant.
Interestingly, a camouflaged electric scooter was spotted undergoing real-world testing in Karnataka, which is presumed to be part of TVS's new range. It's unclear at this stage whether this scooter will be based on the Jupiter 110 or the iQube platform, but it's clear that TVS is committed to developing a new range of affordable electric scooters.
Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy are also venturing into the affordable electric two-wheeler market in India, following TVS's lead. This competitive landscape is driving a trend towards more affordable electric vehicles, with TVS's new pricing strategy reflecting this trend.
While the specific name of the new TVS electric scooter remains unknown, TVS has hinted at new designs being revealed at EICMA 2025, with their recent acquisition of the Norton brand. However, no specific name for a new TVS electric scooter has been confirmed yet.
Stay tuned for more updates as TVS gears up to enter the affordable electric scooter market in India.
