Dubai International Airport Introduces New Security Measures for a Seamless Travel Experience

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has taken a significant step towards enhancing passenger convenience and efficiency with the introduction of state-of-the-art checkpoint scanners. The new technology, currently in trials, promises to revolutionize security checks by allowing passengers to pass through without removing liquids over 100ml or laptops from their bags.

The trials, being carried out by Smiths Detection, a British company, have been successful, resulting in a much quicker and more reliable service. This new technology prioritizes both absolute security and improved quality of screening, as well as speed and efficiency.

The aim is to create a frictionless airport experience, allowing passengers to breeze through the airport without stopping. This initiative is part of Dubai's broader strategy to keep pace with the airport's growth over the past 10 years, without any major infrastructure delivery.

Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP) has awarded the contract for the deployment of these scanners across Terminals 1, 2, and 3. If the trials are successful and delivery schedules are met, the new technology could be rolled out, making security checks easier for passengers and more efficient.

The UAE is investing heavily in aviation technology, such as the implementation of a seamless face recognition check-in process at Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi. This investment reflects the country's commitment to modernizing its airports and providing a world-class travel experience.

However, there is no official rollout date for the new security measures at Dubai International Airport terminals 1, 2, and 3. The rollout depends on the complete installation of the new machines and the materialization of delivery schedules.

The primary focus of these trials is to ensure absolute security and improve the quality of screening. The emphasis on customer service aims to provide travellers with more time to spend in lounges, restaurants, and shopping areas.

With the new technology in place, Dubai International Airport is set to break more records. In the first six months of 2025, the airport set a new record with 46 million passengers, up 2.3% year-on-year. This growth underscores the need for such innovations to cater to the increasing number of travellers.

As the trials continue, passengers can look forward to a smoother and more efficient security process at Dubai International Airport, further enhancing its reputation as a global hub for travel and commerce.
