Volkswagen Crafter and Grand California Camper: New Upgrades and Launch in New Zealand

The Volkswagen Crafter, with its new interior design and advanced features, has made its debut in New Zealand. The Crafter, priced from $91,000 including GST, plus on-road costs, and featuring 3 scheduled services, is now available in a wide range of body types, including panel van, drop side, cab chassis, and heavy-duty solutions.

Inside the Crafter, drivers will find an electronically operated parking brake and an upgraded charging system with USB-C ports. For automatic models, the gear selector has been moved to the steering column. The Crafter's 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines deliver 103kW, 120kW, or 130kW, and transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic specifically designed for RWD models. The Crafter also offers front-wheel, rear-wheel, and 4Motion all-wheel drive options.

The revised Crafter model in Europe includes fully digital instrumentation and displays. The Crafter's connectivity has been upgraded with USB-C ports and includes an inductive wireless charging option for smartphones.

Meanwhile, an upgraded version of the Crafter-based Grand California camper, featuring "Atami Bamboo" decor, is yet to be confirmed for New Zealand. However, the Grand California camper models already offer new luggage nets for additional storage, and revised blackout windows for the cab are available as a new feature. The new features for the Grand California camper include a mobile dining table that can be locked to the exterior of the kitchen unit for outdoor dining. There's also an optional custom-fit thermal mat available for the Grand California camper.

Kevin Richards, general manager of VW Commercial Vehicles NZ, stated that the upgrades bring the latest digital technology for a more intuitive driving experience. The revision of the Volkswagen Crafter in New Zealand was presented by the School Board, celebrating the joining of two Volkswagen Crafter 12-seater vans to their fleet, with the official market start already active as of the report date.
