The construction work on a new drinking water main pipeline in the district of Allendorf, specifically in Kahlweg, will commence on August 18, 2025, as announced by Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG). Originally scheduled to start in May 2025, the project has been delayed due to unspecified reasons.

SWG, in partnership with the Middle Hesse Water Utilities, is responsible for maintaining and expanding the drinking water network in the city of Gießen. The new pipeline, aimed at ensuring a steady supply of clean water, will run under both the sidewalk and the roadway in Kahlweg.

During the construction period, some inconveniences are expected. The street in Kahlweg will be closed in sections for traffic, and a detour will be signposted for through traffic. The parking spaces in the affected areas will not be available, and the sidewalks will be only partially usable. However, residents can drive up to the construction site.

The construction work is planned to be completed by the end of September 2025, as SWG strives to complete the project within the revised time frame. The spokesperson for SWG, Ulli Boos, emphasised that the construction work is aimed at keeping noise and other disturbances as low as possible.

For updates and further information, residents are advised to visit the SWG website or contact the SWG customer service. The construction work on the new pipeline is a significant step towards ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for the city of Gießen.
