US Open 2025: End of Singles Journey for Arthur Rinderknech and Adrian Mannarino, Last Remaining French Tennis Pros
Jiri Lehecka, a tennis player ranked 145th in the world just a few months ago, has made a surprising run at the US Open. On August 31, he defeated Adrian Mannarino in a thrilling four-set match.
The first set was a nail-biter, with Lehecka leading 4-1 in the tie-break and saving three set points. However, Mannarino managed to turn the tables and won the set 7-6 [7-4].
Despite the setback, Lehecka continued to trouble Mannarino with his aggressive play at the net. This tactic paid off, as he went on to win the match with scores of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Arthur Rinderknech also put up a strong fight in his match against the top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz. In the first set, Rinderknech pushed Alcaraz to a tie-break, but unfortunately, he gave away six consecutive points while leading 3-1 in the tie-break, allowing Alcaraz to take the set. The match ended in a straight-sets victory for Alcaraz, with scores of 7-6 [7-3], 6-3, 6-4.
This is not the first time Lehecka has made waves at a Grand Slam tournament. In 2023, he reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, a feat he will repeat at the US Open. Interestingly, this is the first time Lehecka and Mannarino are meeting at a Grand Slam tournament.
Lehecka has also previously beaten Alcaraz on hard outdoor courts, as evidenced by their quarterfinal match in Doha earlier this year. Lehecka won that match in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) before Alcaraz went on to win the tournament.
With this victory, Lehecka will rise to 55th in the world rankings, a gain of 22 positions from his previous ranking. Mannarino, on the other hand, will maintain his 55th position, but may leave the US Open with regrets for not holding onto his lead in the first set against Lehecka.
As for Rinderknech, he will have to regroup and prepare for his next tournament, having been defeated by Alcaraz in the round of 16 at the US Open. Despite the loss, Rinderknech can take solace in the fact that he gave Alcaraz a tough fight, especially in the first set.
In summary, the US Open has seen some exciting matches so far, with Lehecka's win over Mannarino being one of the highlights. As the tournament progresses, it will be interesting to see how these players perform in their upcoming matches.
