Vehicular Fire on Autobahn 3 in Frankfurt Leads to Extensive Emergency Response

In an unexpected incident on July 15, 2025, a burning pickup truck required a large deployment of emergency services on the A3 motorway in Frankfurt.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 PM, with the driver, a 43-year-old individual, noticing smoke coming from the vehicle's ventilation and engine compartment. In an attempt to prevent further damage, the driver steered the vehicle onto the hard shoulder below the East roll bridge and left it.

The pickup truck, which was only recently registered, suffered a total loss in the high five-figure range. The truck caught fire and its gas tank detonated, but remarkably, the driver remained unharmed.

The closure in the direction of WΓΌrzburg was lifted after approximately 40 minutes. However, the Cologne-bound direction remained closed for another hour, with at least the left lane reopened. Traffic on the A3 was stopped in both directions due to heavy smoke and later rerouted.

The nearby airport was informed about the restricted visibility, and the bridge structure was inspected and reopened for aircraft crossing. The fire was extinguished, but the heat damaged the road surface and the tunnel ceiling.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the criminal police, and the search results do not specify the name of the person currently leading the investigation. An expert was called in to address the damage.
