Veronika Fischer Calls Off Her Farwell Concert Series
In a heartfelt announcement on her Facebook channel, GDR Schlager icon Veronika Fischer has shared her decision to retire from the big stage due to health issues. After 55 years of stage work, the beloved singer is forced to say goodbye to her fans earlier than planned.
Veronika Fischer's career began in 1971 when she started as a singing student at the Dresden Music Academy. Over the years, she sang with well-known bands such as Fred Herfter Combo, Stern Combo MeiΓen, and Panta Rhei. A year after founding her own group, Veronika Fischer & Band, she released her debut album in 1974.
The singer has written Schlager history with songs like "On the Meadow", "Summer Night Ball", and "I Wish I Was a Snowflake", three of which became evergreens from her debut album. Fischer's voice has caught a cold, and her body is showing her its limits.
Despite the unfortunate circumstances, Fischer's farewell tour, titled "Where From Where", was scheduled for this fall, including concerts in Dresden, Potsdam, and Berlin. However, the now-cancelled tour has left many fans disappointed. The singer expressed her regret that she couldn't celebrate her final concerts with her fans.
After the Wende, Veronika Fischer returned to Eastern Germany and continued her successful career. In 2018, she published her autobiography "Where From Where". Fischer has always aimed to sing live for her audience, not to lip-sync, and her fans have appreciated her dedication over many years.
Manager Mario Wollny did not comment on the details of Veronika Fischer's health problems with her voice. Fischer, however, expressed her gratitude towards her fans for their loyalty over many years and for numerous wonderful moments. She encourages her fans to take care of themselves and to continue enjoying music.
With her retirement, Veronika Fischer leaves behind a rich legacy in the world of Schlager music. Fans can still cherish her evergreens and the memories of her live performances. Although her live career may be over, Fischer's music will continue to live on.
