Veronika Fischer, a DDR Schlager icon, has announced her retirement from performing with a band due to voice problems. The news came as a shock to her fans, who had been eagerly awaiting her upcoming farewell tour titled "Woher Wohin."

The tour, which was scheduled to start on Friday in Neubrandenburg, has been cancelled. The tour included seven concerts in cities such as Dresden, Potsdam, and Berlin.

Fischer made the announcement on her Facebook channel with emotional words, expressing her gratitude for her fans' loyalty over the years and for many wonderful moments spent together.

"I am forced to say goodbye to my fans earlier than planned," Fischer said in her statement. "Performing with a band takes a lot of energy, and my voice problems have made it impossible for me to continue."

Fischer first stood at the microphone with well-known bands such as the Fred Herfter Combo, the Stern Combo Meißen, and Panta Rhei. In 1974, she founded her own group, Veronika Fischer & Band.

During the 1980s, Fischer sang with the Stern Combo Meißen in West Berlin. However, after her move to West Berlin in 1981, she felt alienated and could not continue the same level of success with any band there.

Fischer's debut album, released in 1975, included three songs that became evergreens: "Auf der Wiese," "Klavier im Fluß," and "Daß ich eine Schneeflocke wär."

Fischer's manager, Mario Wollny, confirmed the retirement and stated that while he does not rule out the possibility of one or two future performances by Fischer, he provides no details.

Fischer started her professional career in 1971 as a voice student at the Dresden Music Academy. She has made Schlager history with songs like "Auf der Wiese," "Sommernachtsball," and "Daß ich eine Schneeflocke wär."

Fischer expressed her desire to celebrate her final concerts with her fans, but unfortunately, it was not possible. Despite this, Fischer remains optimistic about the future and looks forward to spending time with her loved ones.

"I am grateful for all the memories and experiences I have had over the years," Fischer said. "I will miss performing for my fans, but I am ready for a new chapter in my life."
