Veronika Fischer has decided to call off her goodbye concert series
Veronika Fischer, a beloved figure in East German Schlager music, has announced her retirement from the big stage due to voice issues. The news was shared on her Facebook channel, where she expressed her sadness about not being able to perform live with her fans.
Fischer, who has been in the music industry for 55 years, is known for hits such as "Auf der Wiese", "Sommernachtsball", and "Daß ich eine Schneeflocke wär". She founded her own group, Veronika Fischer & Band, in 1974, and released her debut album a year after. Three songs from her debut album became evergreens: "Auf der Wiese", "Klavier im Fluß", and "Daß ich eine Schneeflocke wär".
Manager Mario Wollny confirmed that Fischer's farewell from the big stage will be with a band. However, the concerts planned for this fall in cities including Neubrandenburg, Dresden, Potsdam, and Berlin have been cancelled, and no replacement concerts have been announced. Wollny suggested the possibility of Fischer performing in smaller settings in the future.
Fischer thanked her fans for their loyalty over the years and for the many wonderful moments they shared. She regretted that she is forced to say goodbye to her fans earlier than expected.
In 1981, Fischer felt like a stranger when she traveled to West Berlin. After reunification, she returned to Eastern Germany, where her fans remain loyal to this day. Fischer initially sang with well-known bands such as Fred Herfter Combo, Stern Combo Meißen, and Panta Rhei before founding her own group.
Fischer's autobiography, titled "Woher Wohin", was published in 2018. The cancelled farewell tour, consisting of seven concerts, was also titled "Woher Wohin". The retirement of this East German Schlager icon was previously reported by media outlets.
Despite her retirement, Fischer has stated that it has always been her goal to sing for her fans live, not to lip-sync. We wish her a peaceful retirement and hope for occasional smaller performances in the future.
