Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup aims to expand into sustainable energy and hospitality sectors within the Indian market.

VinFast, a subsidiary of the Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup JSC, has officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7, on Saturday. The prices for these models, ex-showroom, stand at ₹16.49 lakh and ₹20.89 lakh respectively.

The launch marks the beginning of VinFast's foray into the electric two-wheeler and electric bus (e-Bus) markets in India, with plans to launch an EV every six months. VinFast Asia's CEO, Pham Sanh Chau, has expressed the company's ambition to bring the entire Vingroup ecosystem to India, aiming to make India the second Vietnam.

In addition to electric vehicles, VinFast has plans to expand into various sectors in India, including smart cities, hospitality, and green energy. The company has already started the second phase of their factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, and aims to build smart cities requiring at least 2,000 acres of land.

For the e-Bus segment, VinFast is in the process of converting the vehicles from left hand drive to right hand drive. The company is also in talks with various state governments in India regarding potential partnerships.

VinFast's manufacturing facility for electric vehicles has a current production capacity of 50,000 electric cars per year, which will be expanded to 1.50 lakh units per year in the second phase. The company also plans to build 15,000 charging stations across India.

The VF 6 is powered by a 59.6 kWh battery pack with a certified range of up to 468 kms, while the VF 7 is available in two battery packs (59.6 kWh and 70.8 kWh) and five variants, with ranges varying from 438 km to 510 km.

As part of its expansion into the Indian market, VinEnergo, the energy company of VinFast, has initiated operations in India, focusing on the development and distribution of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and renewable energy solutions. By the end of this year, VinFast plans to have 35 outlets across India.

The company's chairman's vision is to make India the second Vietnam, meaning they aim to bring the entire Vingroup ecosystem to India. This includes plans to build resorts and hospitals across India, although no new information about these plans has been provided recently.

As VinFast continues to expand in India, it is poised to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market and contribute to India's transition towards sustainable and green energy solutions.
