Obituary: Beloved Actor Horst Krause, Iconic Village Policeman in "Police Call 110", Passes Away at 83

Horst Krause, the beloved German actor who captivated audiences for decades with his portrayal of the gruff yet endearing village policeman Horst Krause in the popular series "Police Call 110", has sadly passed away at the age of 83.

Born near Danzig in 1941, Krause grew up in the Brandenburg town of Ludwigsfelde, where he was known as the class clown at school. His early career began as a turner, but his love for acting led him to study at the State Drama School in Berlin-Schoeneweide.

Krause's big break came in 1998 when he joined the cast of "Police Call", a series that established itself as a popular counterpart to the "Tatort". The director who cast him, Andreas Kleinert, named the character Horst Krause in honour of the actor. Interestingly, Krause shared the same name as his most famous TV character, a fact that added a unique touch to his performance.

Throughout his time on "Police Call", Krause worked alongside a talented ensemble of actors, including Jutta Hoffmann, Imogen Kogge, and Maria Simon. His colleagues found him humorous and enjoyed arguing with him on set, making for a lively and enjoyable atmosphere during filming.

Apart from "Police Call", Krause also appeared in the spin-off "Police Sergeant Krause" and the comedy "We Can Also Do It Differently..." in 1993, directed by Detlev Buck, with whom Krause became known. He also had the leading role in the cinema film "Schultze Gets the Blues".

In recognition of his contributions to the arts, Krause received the Brandenburg Order of Merit in 2012. On the occasion of his 80th birthday in 2021, he received congratulations from Minister President Dietmar Woidke.

Krause's role as the village policeman Krause was considered the role of his life. His portrayal of the character, with its blend of humour and authenticity, endeared him to audiences across Germany. His passing leaves a significant void in the German acting community and among his many devoted fans.

Rest in peace, Horst Krause. Your memory will live on through your unforgettable performances.
