Visual Artist Transforms into a Jewish Painter Post-October 7, 2023

Yury Kharchenko, a renowned Jewish painter based in Berlin, will be the guest for an upcoming talk on Monday, 06.10.2025, at 7:00 PM. The event will take place at our website Kantine and in a livestream, with doors opening at 6:30 PM.

Born in Moscow, Kharchenko spent his childhood in the Rhineland after emigrating to Germany. He has resided and worked in Berlin for 16 years, and his works are part of collections such as Museum Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, Kunstmuseum Walter, Sammlung Wemhöner (Herford/Berlin), Kunsthaus NRW Aachen, NS Documentation Center Cologne, and Felix-Nussbaum-House in Osnabrück.

Kharchenko is known for addressing antisemitism in his art, a topic that will be discussed during the talk. The event will also delve into the impact of recent events, such as the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent anti-Semitic movement in most Western countries, on his work.

The talk will be moderated by Jan Feddersen, the website editor for special tasks and curator of our website Talks and our website lab. Audience members can submit questions for the event in advance or give feedback after the conversation by emailing ourwebsitetalk@ourwebsite.

In addition to the talk, Kharchenko will curate an exhibition "Bad Good Jews" in a former Nazi bunker in Berlin from November 13 to 28, 2025, together with Aljoscha Samjatin. Admission to the event is free, but reservation is required.
