VISUALS: Once more, MTV's VMAs blast off at UBS Arena, marking the event's consecutive return
The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) returned to UBS Arena in New York for the second consecutive year, hosting a night of excitement and celebration.
LL Cool J graced the stage as the host for the evening, setting the tone for an unforgettable event. The awards ceremony recognised the best in music videos from the past year, with several artists taking home multiple awards.
Coldplay triumphed in the Best Rock category for their single "ALL MY LOVE", while Sabrina Carpenter won the Best Album category for Short n' Sweet. Shakira won the Best Latin category for "Soltera", and BLACKPINK claimed the Best Group award.
In the individual categories, Lady Gaga had a stellar night, winning Artist of the Year, Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Choreography for "Abracadabra". Ariana Grande also shone brightly, winning Video of the Year, Best Long Form Video, Best Pop, Best Collaboration (with Bruno Mars), and Best Editing for "Brighter Days Ahead".
Tyla won the Best Afrobeats category for "PUSH 2 START", Doechii took home the Best Choreography award for "Anxiety", and Charli xcx won the Video For Good category for "Guess featuring Billie Eilish". Tate McRae claimed the Song of the Summer for "Just Keep Watching (From F1® The Movie)" and the Best Editing award for the same song. Sabrina Carpenter also won the Best Visual Effects category for "Manchild".
Several artists were honoured with special awards. Mariah Carey accepted the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, Busta Rhymes received the MTV VMA Rock The Bells Visionary Award, and Ricky Martin received the Latin Icon award. KATSEYE won MTV Push Performance of the Year, and LISA ft. Doja Cat & RAYE won the Best K-Pop category for "Born Again".
The evening concluded with Ariana Grande receiving the award for Video of the Year and Best Longform Video for "Brighter Days Ahead", adding another accolade to her impressive collection. Megan Moroney won the Best Country category for "Am I Okay?".
The MTV VMAs 2023 was a night filled with memorable performances, heartfelt speeches, and well-deserved recognition for the artists who have made an impact in the music industry.
