Vocabulary derived from the examination of Muslim communities in Southern Asia
The South Asia Program and the Henry Luce Foundation are set to host an exciting conference seminar on a significant topic, with renowned scholars Christophe Jaffrelot and Mukulika Banerjee at the helm.
Taking place both in person and online via the Zoom platform, the seminar will be chaired by Christophe Jaffrelot, who is a Research Director at CERI-SciencesPo/CNRS and serves as the scientific coordinator of the event.
Joining him is Mukulika Banerjee, a Professor of Social Anthropology at the London School of Economics. Mukulika Banerjee brings a wealth of knowledge to the table, having served as the Founding Director of the LSE South Asia Centre from 2015-2020.
Asmaa El Maaroufi, the scientific coordinator of the online dispute culture seminar held on March 24, 2023, will also be a speaker at the conference.
Before joining LSE, Mukulika Banerjee taught at Oxford and UCL, and she has authored several notable books, including "Why India Votes?" (2014), "The Pathan Unarmed" (2001), "The Sari" (2003, with Daniel Miller), and "Muslim Portraits" (ed) (2007). Her most recent monograph, "Cultivating Democracy: Politics and Citizenship in Agrarian India" (2021) published by OUP, New York, further cements her position as a leading voice in the field.
