Volkswagen Unveils New Electric Compact Car: The ID.Polo
In a significant move, Volkswagen is rebranding its electric vehicles under a unified Volkswagen name, moving away from the ID. naming strategy. This shift was announced by Thomas Schäfer, brand boss of VW, on LinkedIn last Wednesday (3rd September).
The announcement came ahead of the IAA Mobility in Munich, which takes place from 8th to 14th September. At this event, Volkswagen will present the ID.Cross, the electric counterpart to the T-Cross, and possibly the ID.Polo GTI.
The ID.Polo, the new electric compact car, is set to hit the market in 2026, marking the start of a new generation of Volkswagens. This announcement comes in the 50th anniversary year of the Polo. Michael Mauer, head of the brand division at Volkswagen, revealed the identity of the electric compact vehicle ID.2all, named ID.Polo, on LinkedIn before the IAA in Munich on September 3, 2023.
A short video revealing the name ID.Polo was shared by Thomas Schäfer on LinkedIn. The production version of the ID.Polo was partially revealed in the shared video, but more details will be available in a few days.
In addition to the ID.Polo, we can expect an ID.Golf, an ID.Passat, and possibly an ID.Up in the near future.
