Volkswagen reintroduces the well-known VW ID. Polo model

The automotive industry is gearing up for a fierce competition in the segment of electric city cars, and Volkswagen is ready to join the fray with its latest offering – the ID.Polo. This electric vehicle (EV) is set to be a sporty version of the ID.Polo, promising a punchy 166 kW and an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than seven seconds.

The ID.Polo is not just a technological marvel; it's also a familiar face. Volkswagen is banking on the trust that a name like Polo carries, especially when many customers are still undecided between combustion engines and electric vehicles.

The ID.Polo will come in two battery sizes, with the smaller variant offering a range of around 300 kilometers and the larger battery achieving 400 kilometers. All versions of the ID.Polo will be capable of fast charging with direct current (DC).

The price for a well-equipped version of the ID.Polo GTI is expected to be around 40,000 euros. The smaller battery variant is anticipated to cost around 25,000 euros, while the larger battery variant is expected to move towards 30,000 euros.

The ID.Polo will not be the only electric city car in the market. Renault, Peugeot, Opel, BMW with the Mini, and Asian manufacturers are also bringing their own electric city cars. In the same segment, the VW ID.Polo will compete with the Renault 5, Peugeot e-208, or Opel Corsa Electric.

Volkswagen itself is not the only company competing in this segment. Volkswagen's upcoming VW ID.1 (formerly previewed as ID.EVERY1), expected around 2027, and Mercedes with its new electric-based entry model, the Mercedes CLA, coming from 2025 onward, will also be vying for customers' attention.

The market launch for the ID.Polo GTI is scheduled for the end of 2026. As the race for electric city cars heats up, it will be interesting to see how the ID.Polo fares in this competitive landscape.
