Volkswagen's updated Tiguan boasts Golf GTI's power, while a new VW T-Roc R Black Edition is introduced as well.
Volkswagen Expands 'R' Lineup with New Tiguan R and T-Roc R Black Edition
Volkswagen has added two new performance models to its range, the Tiguan R and the T-Roc R Black Edition, offering more power and luxury for those seeking a sportier ride.
The Tiguan R, a performance 'R' model, delivers 316bhp, marking a significant upgrade from the previous 148bhp 1.5 litre TSI engine that was the only petrol option for the Tiguan. Volkswagen has also added a de-tuned 187bhp version of the Golf GTI's engine to the Tiguan range.
The new Tiguan R-Line 2.0 TSI 265 PS comes with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission. Standard equipment includes VW's DCC adaptive suspension, ensuring a smooth and responsive drive. The Tiguan R will go on sale on August 15, with a starting price of £47,540.
Meanwhile, the T-Roc R Black Edition sits at the top of the T-Roc range and features 'Black Edition' tweaks. It shares the same powertrain as the regular T-Roc R, with 296bhp from a 2.0-litre TSI engine and all-wheel drive with a seven-speed DCT transmission. The T-Roc R Black Edition can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 4.9 seconds.
The new T-Roc R Black edition has a starting price of £44,250 and comes with additional features over the standard T-Roc R, including a rear-view camera, heated front seats, electric tailgate, panoramic roof, and Beats Sound. It also boasts decorative trims, roof rails, mirror housings, and black and diamond-cut 19'' Estoril alloys.
The Volkswagen 'R' thing started out as a performance take on the Golf with the Golf R32 back in 2003. Since then, the 'R' lineup has expanded to include the Golf R, the Tiguan R, and now the T-Roc R. Volkswagen has also announced a new T-Roc - the T-Roc R Black Edition - and hinted at future additions to the 'R' family, such as the expected launch of the new Volkswagen Arteon R in 2026.
For those considering the Tiguan R but seeking a more spacious alternative, the Volkswagen Golf R Estate is an alternative to consider.
The Tiguan R and T-Roc R Black Edition are now available for purchase in the UK, with prices starting from £45,915 for the Tiguan R and £44,250 for the T-Roc R Black Edition.
