Voter Turnout in the 2024 Election: A State-by-State Breakdown

In the recently concluded 2024 election, the national average for voter turnout among adults 65 and older was a notable 65.3%. This marked the highest turnout rate for this demographic, surpassing the participation of younger adults.

Historically, young adults tend to vote at a lower rate than their older counterparts. However, the 2024 election saw a significant shift in this trend, with only 17 states, plus the District of Columbia, having a majority of eligible 18-to-24-year-olds casting their votes. The District of Columbia, in particular, recorded the highest turnout for this age group at 73.2%.

Washington state, on the other hand, did not have a majority of eligible 18-to-24-year-olds voting, with a turnout of 49.7%. Despite this, it was the state with the highest turnout among adults 65 and older, with 78.8% of eligible seniors participating in the election.

The racial demographics of voter turnout in Washington state were as follows: Black voters had a turnout of 49.2%, Hispanic voters 50.9%, Asian voters 52.6%, and white, non-Hispanic voters had the highest turnout at 75.5%.

Nationally, there was a slight difference in the voting patterns between men and women. While 66.9% of eligible women and 63.7% of eligible men voted, only four states were reported to have men voting at a higher rate than women. Unfortunately, the search results do not provide information about which demographic group among those surveyed received the most votes from 18-to-24-year-olds in the 2024 elections in Washington.

West Virginia had the lowest voter turnout among adults 65 and older in the 2024 election, with only 62.8% of eligible seniors participating. Conversely, New Jersey had the highest turnout among this demographic, with 84.7% of eligible seniors voting.

The lowest turnout for 18-to-24-year-olds was recorded in Arizona, with only 31.9% of eligible young adults casting their votes. Ohio, South Carolina, Idaho, and Maine were the only states where men voted at a higher rate than women, but none of these states were mentioned in the context of the 18-to-24 year old voter turnout.

These figures highlight the varied patterns of voter participation across different demographics and age groups in the 2024 election. As we look forward to future elections, understanding these trends and encouraging participation among all eligible voters will continue to be crucial.
