Warrant Issued for the Arrest of a Suspect Allegedly Supporting the Terrorist Group Islamic State (IS) on Global Basis
German Authorities Arrest Suspected Terrorist Akhmad E.
In a significant development, Akhmad E., a Russian national, was arrested at Berlin Brandenburg Airport on June 5, 2025. The arrest warrant was issued by the investigating judge of the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe, Germany.
The arrest warrant alleges that Akhmad E. supported a terrorist organization abroad, specifically the Islamic State (IS), in violation of § 105 JGG. The warrant also accuses him of preparing a serious act of violence endangering the state (§ 89a Abs. 2 StGB) and attempting membership in a terrorist organization abroad (§ 129a Abs. 1 Nr. 1, § 129b Abs. 1, §§ 22, 23 StGB).
The warrant was initially issued by the Brandenburg an der Havel Local Court on 21 February 2025. It replaces an earlier warrant issued by the same court. The Federal Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigations previously conducted by the General Prosecutor's Office of Brandenburg.
According to the warrant, Akhmad E. was suspected of supporting the terrorist organization IS as a juvenile. He is also accused of translating propaganda material for the IS into Russian and Chechen.
The arrest warrant further alleges that on 20 February 2025, Akhmad E. intended to travel to the IS operating area, join the organization, and receive military training. However, he was arrested before departure.
It is reported that Akhmad E. was a supporter of the IS ideology and had previously attempted to travel to Pakistan to join the organization. However, he was arrested before departure. He has been in custody since his arrest.
