Waterfront Extension: Suicardus Street Expansion Underway
The city of Mainz is about to undergo a significant change, as the redevelopment of Schlossufer commences on August 18, 2025. This construction phase, overseen by the Rhein Main Congress Centrum (RMCC), will continue until the end of 2026.
The work encompasses a variety of measures, including the renewal of utility lines, the implementation of a lighting concept, the repair of the road surface, and the creation of additional parking spaces. The expansion of Suicardus Street South between Dalberg Street and Oberer Hofweg is a key part of this redevelopment.
During this construction period, both Suicardus Street and Oberer Hofweg will be fully closed. An electric bollard system will be installed at the entrance from Dalberg Street, and additional parking spaces will be made available for residents, market vendors, and visitors. However, it's important to note that no new information about the electric bollard system at the entrance from Dalberg Street or the additional parking spaces has been disclosed yet.
The playground below Suicardus Street will be closed throughout the construction period. To mitigate any potential disruptions, the construction work will be conducted under both archaeological and explosive ordnance disposal supervision.
One positive aspect of this redevelopment is the availability of a newly built elevator at the Schlosstreppe, which serves as an alternative for the Oberer Hofweg. Fortunately, the construction phase does not affect this new infrastructure.
While these supervisions may cause delays in the construction schedule, the city of Mainz is preparing for an exciting transformation that will undoubtedly benefit its residents and visitors in the long run. Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses.
