Week of Emphasis on Road Safety for Safer Highways
Bad Gandersheim, Germany — The Bad Gandersheim police recently conducted an intensive traffic safety week (TSW) as part of their traffic strategy, with strong cooperation from the Northeim district, the deployment unit of the PI Northeim, and the readiness police Göttingen.
The primary objective of the TSW was to combat the main causes of accidents and increase safety on the roads. The focus of the checks was on fitness to drive (alcohol, drugs, medication), speed, the use of restraint systems, and distraction by mobile devices.
During the TSW, the "Alice" speed camera trailer was in use, and both mobile and stationary checks were carried out. As a result, a total of 621 speeding violations were recorded, with the Northeim district accounting for 451 and Bad Gandersheim recording 125.
In addition to speeding violations, several other offenses were detected. Two cases of driving without a license and one criminal offense under the Road Traffic Act were identified. Eleven offenses related to the use of electronic devices during driving were also detected.
The Bad Gandersheim police took preventive measures such as school route patrols, offering pedestrian licenses to preschool children, and informing about dangers in traffic at the weekly market. Checks of commercial goods traffic were carried out on the B 64, and checks of motorcycle traffic were carried out at the "Harzhorn" on the B 248.
The checks of commercial goods traffic resulted in five violations, four of which were in the area of the Road Traffic Act and one for overloading. Three administrative offense reports were drawn up for alcohol and/or THC influence. In addition, there was one criminal offense of driving under the influence.
