Weekend festivity dubbed as "Street Party" to honor street art creations
In the heart of Guernsey, the Old Quarter has been brought to life with vibrant colours and artistic flair, thanks to Art for Guernsey's multi-faceted event, 'Diversion'. The project, which aimed to revitalise the area that had been in decline for many years, has been a resounding success.
The street art created during Diversion has not only transformed Mansell Street into a street art canvas but has also found a permanent home. The positive public reaction to the murals has led to them staying in place following the event. Local artists such as Ross le Brun, Tim Gaudion, and Luke Gallie, along with numerous international artists including Teddy Baden, Leo Boyd, and Charlie McFarley, were involved in the creation of these stunning works of art.
Children from Art for Guernsey's Summer Holiday Art Club also contributed to the street art, ensuring a sense of community involvement. The project, which also included a contemporary art exhibition at the Art for Guernsey Gallery, was not just about visual transformation, but also about fostering community spirit. People have taken the time to stop, smile, and engage with one another as they admire the art.
As a final opportunity for the public to see the art created and displayed throughout the area, a free, family-friendly street party is being held on Saturday. The event, which will take place from 14.00 till 16.00, will feature face painting, music, arts and crafts, making it an enjoyable experience for all ages.
Caitlin Grupping, the General Manager of Art for Guernsey, stated that Diversion has been a significant success. Highlights for her include the road closure, artist collaboration, and the vibrant colours inside the gallery. Art for Guernsey is grateful to its sponsors and the artists for making the 'festival of art' possible.
The street party marks the end of Art for Guernsey's exhibit, 'Diversion', and is part of the celebrations to mark its conclusion. It's a fitting finale for an event that has brought so much life and colour to Guernsey's Old Quarter. The street art created during Diversion will continue to brighten the area, serving as a reminder of the transformative power of art and community spirit.
