Travelers returning to North Rhine-Westphalia over the weekend experienced a relatively smooth journey, with both Düsseldorf and Cologne/Bonn Airports reporting a total of 210,000 and 115,000 passengers respectively. The calmness extended to the roads, as traffic remained unruffled until the afternoon, with the total length of traffic jams in the state never exceeding 100 kilometers.
Düsseldorf Airport, operated by Flughafen Düsseldorf GmbH, and Cologne/Bonn Airport, managed by Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH, were the hubs for the majority of travelers in the region. Both airport operating companies are independent entities responsible for their respective airports.
The WDR traffic studio and ADAC traffic reports did not indicate any significant disruptions, instead mainly noting everyday delays around announced construction sites or closures. These minor inconveniences did not seem to affect the overall tranquility of the roads in North Rhine-Westphalia.
A dpa reporter confirmed that operations at Cologne/Bonn Airport were quiet, while another confirmed the same for Düsseldorf Airport. Furthermore, airport spokespeople reported no instances of longer waiting times at either airport.
