Weekend Opening of Downtown Businesses and Shops During the Festival of Diversity

The city of Solingen, celebrating its 650th anniversary, was set to host the international culture and environment festival "Life Needs Diversity" from August 23rd to 25th. However, the festival was unfortunately cancelled on Friday evening due to a terror attack in the city.

Despite the cancellation, some activities are still scheduled to take place. One of these is the activity for children to paint wooden cubes at the "MITTEndrin" office, located at Hauptstraße 56. Children and young people can paint these cubes in different colours to represent functions found in a city centre: red for living, green for greenery, blue for gastronomy, and yellow for trade. The wooden cubes painted by children will show what makes a city centre lively.

The "MITTEndrin" office will be open for discussions during the festival on Saturday from 11.00 to 16.00, and on Sunday, August 25th, from 13.00 to 15.00. It's worth noting that the wooden cubes painted by children are not related to the international culture and environment festival "Life Needs Diversity".

In addition to the "MITTEndrin" office, retailers and restaurateurs in Solingen's city centre will be open on Sunday, August 25th, from 13.00 to 18.00.

An emergency services mile will also be part of the Diversity Festival, but further activities announced for the festival will not take place.

A walkable LKW tarpaulin in front of the entrance shows an aerial view of the city centre, allowing interested parties to mark places for more greenery. The results of this action will be included in the concept for strengthening urban greenery.

The city development planning team and the city centre management are involved in the Diversity Festival, and the "MITTEndrin" office serves as a location for discussions during the event.

The festival, which was set to include live music, theatre, cabaret, and acrobatics on three stages, was a celebration of diversity and a testament to Solingen's rich history and vibrant community. Our thoughts are with those affected by the recent events.
