On the 28th of June, 2025, the Bärenstein border crossing witnessed a series of incidents involving suspected smuggling and illegal entry. Two Uzbek nationals, aged 32 and 35, were stopped by federal police officers after entering from the Czech Republic. The Uzbek nationals could not provide a valid residence permit for Germany, leading to suspicion of smuggling foreigners and attempted illegal entry.

After police processing, the Uzbek nationals were deported by plane from Munich to their home country. No information was provided about the outcome or charges related to this incident.

Meanwhile, a 50-year-old Czech taxi driver involved in a separate incident at the same border crossing was released on bail of 6,000 Czech crowns (approximately 240 euros). The taxi, which had entered from the Czech Republic, was stopped by federal police officers.

In a related development, a 46-year-old Bulgarian citizen was arrested by the Federal Police Office Chemnitz during the weekend border controls. Upon entry from the Czech Republic, he was found to have an outstanding warrant issued by the OsnabrĂźck public prosecutor for a particularly serious case of theft.

The weekend's reintroduced border controls also saw the enforcement of two arrest warrants. A 24-year-old Romanian national, wanted for theft, was sentenced to a fine of 900 euros or 15 days' imprisonment. He was able to pay his fine and continue his journey.

At the Reitzenhain border crossing, two Ukrainian nationals, aged 44 and 45, were turned back due to entry bans for Germany.

In a separate incident on the 27th of June, a 45-year-old Kosovar driver was turned back at the Bärenstein border crossing due to an existing entry and residence ban in Germany. The Kosovar driver was arrested and processed at the Federal Police Station Schmalzgrube before being deported back to the Czech Republic.

In a separate court ruling, a 21-year-old Czech national, wanted for theft, was sentenced by the Regional Court of Erfurt to a fine of 616 euros or 13 days' imprisonment.

These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts by the German authorities to maintain border security and enforce laws against illegal activities.
