In the world of technology, there's never a dull moment. This week, several companies are showcasing their latest offerings at the IFA show in Germany, including Foxconn Technology, who will be unveiling new Pocketbook e-readers and a tablet PC.
Pocketbook is stepping into the tablet PC market with the Pocketbook IQ, their first Android tablet. Featuring a 7-inch TFT Color Touch screen, WI-FI and Bluetooth, and a built-in G sensor, this device is set to make waves.
Meanwhile, Axon Enterprise, Inc. has introduced the Axon Logic Haptic tablet. This impressive device boasts a 1.66 GHz Atom N270 processor, 2 GB RAM, and 320 GB hard disk space. It also comes equipped with a 1.3 megapixel front-facing webcam, built-in speaker, three USB ports, Mic, Ethernet, headphone and VGA ports, and a memory card reader. What's more, it's compatible with various operating systems, including Drawin OS and even Mac OS X.
EC Media International, the digital publishing company behind the Wink e-reader, has also joined the fray. The Wink, priced at Rs. 11,500 or approximately $250, features a 6-inch e-paper display, a 400 MHz Samsung processor, 2GBs onboard storage, and a battery life of 10,000 page turns or 10 hours of music playback.
In other news, Forbes has published a report on the highest earners of the ebook industry, covering the time period between June 1, 2009, and June 2, 2010. The report covers book sales, film rights, gaming deals, and other income sources.
Notion Ink's Adam Tablet PC is part of an online competition called Project Genesis, offering millions to developers for great applications to be shipped with the device. Rohan Shravan, CEO of Notion Ink, stated that the end price for the device will be "cheap as well," with a range of around $399 to $498 for the LCD and PQ variants.
HP's tablet, confirmed to be released in Q1 2011, will run on both Windows 7 and WebOS. However, no mention of an Android-powered HP tablet was made during the confirmation. HP's tablet dreams prompted the company to acquire Palm.
Dell is planning to bypass Android 2.1 and jump to Android 2.2 for the Streak. Meanwhile, the Velocity Micro Cruz Tablet and Reader will be available for pre-order from Borders starting October 15th and September 15th respectively. The Cruz devices run Android OS, version 2.0 and have tied up with Borders' online e-book store as the official content provider.
Barnes & Noble has launched their new E-Reader App for the Apple iPhone, called Nook. Amazon also published a report of authors who have sold the most ebooks online last month.
The Toshiba Libretto W100 Tablet is now on sale in the USA for around $1100. The Pocketbook Pro 602 and Pro 902 have a six-inch and 10-inch e-ink screen respectively, with battery life of around 12,000 page turns.
Lastly, the Axon Logic Haptic tablet supports 3G CDMA-VErizon SIM slot and a/b/g/n Wi-Fi. It also includes a stylus, an on-screen keyboard, and handwriting recognition feature. The Axon Logic Haptic tablet is now available for pre-order.
