West Ham's Paqueta believed to remain with the team despite speculation linking him to Aston Villa.
West Ham United Secure First Premier League Victory of the Season
West Ham United secured their first win of the Premier League season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest at the London Stadium. The Hammers, led by manager Graham Potter, showed a dominant display, scoring three times in seven minutes during the second half.
Despite the victory, the win did not ease the pressure on Nottingham Forest's head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo. The Portuguese manager is expected to have discussions with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis regarding his future at the club, as Forest suffered their heaviest Premier League defeat since an 8-1 loss to Manchester United in February 1999.
Nuno Espirito Santo expressed his disappointment with the performance, stating that the team did not show the urgency required during the game. He also acknowledged that it was a difficult day for him and that he needs to ensure such a defeat does not happen again.
The winning goals were scored by Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta (from a penalty), and Callum Wilson in stoppage time. Paqueta, who has been the subject of media reports linking him with a move to Aston Villa, demonstrated his passion for West Ham by tapping and kissing the badge while celebrating his goal. The Brazilian midfielder has now converted all six of his penalty kicks for West Ham in the Premier League.
Paqueta's current contract with West Ham United runs until 2027, with an option for an additional season, and Potter indicated he expects Paquetรก to make a decision regarding his future soon. Jarrod Bowen, who scored the opening goal, stated that some people doubted whether Paqueta would play in the match, but he did and scored a goal.
Nottingham Forest struggled to generate a decent attacking threat during the match, with only 3 shots on target and an xG of 0.6. On the other hand, West Ham United looked sharp and dangerous, with their midfield orchestrating the play effectively.
Nuno Espirito Santo plans to use the international break to work with the players who stay at the club to improve their performance. He stated that he and the team have to address what the club needs. Meanwhile, Potter expressed confidence that Paqueta will remain at the club.
The Hammers skipper acknowledged that the start of the season has not been what they wanted, but expressed confidence in their quality and resilience. With this victory, West Ham United will be hoping to build on this performance and climb up the Premier League table.
