WhatsApp Scam Alert: Caution Regarding Fraudulent Gambling Activities in Poland, Warned by Polish-DN

In the small town of Düren, Germany, an 18-year-old employee of a local gas station played a crucial role in preventing a scam that targeted a 75-year-old resident. The incident, which involved the purchase of ApplePay cards and stream cards, unfolded on Friday, 29th October 2024.

The story began when the elderly woman was contacted via WhatsApp by an unknown person, claiming to be an agent. The agent informed her about a supposed win, but to receive it, the woman needed to make payments. Suspicious transactions began, with the total purchase amount reaching four figures in euros by the time an 18-year-old employee of the gas station became suspicious.

The employee, noticing something amiss, took a closer look at the WhatsApp conversation between the victim and the unknown suspect. Recognising the potential scam, the employee immediately informed the police, preventing further payments to the fraudsters.

The quick action of the 18-year-old employee helped prevent further losses for the 75-year-old victim. The victim was prevented from making further payments to scammers on Sunday, 10th November 2024.
