White House transformed into a replica of Mar-a-Lago under Trump's leadership
The White House, a symbol of American history and politics, is undergoing a dramatic transformation under the guidance of former President Donald Trump. The South Lawn is set to become the venue for an Ultimate Fighting Championship cage fight on July 4, 2023, but the most noticeable changes are taking place indoors.
The Oval Office, once a symbol of presidential dignity, has been adorned with gilded ornamentation, giving it an air of opulence. This is part of a larger renovation project that includes the construction of a new gaudy white-and-gold ballroom and a modernized East Wing.
The White House Rose Garden, a place of tranquility and historical significance, has been transformed into what is now known as The Rose Garden Club. The once lush garden has been paved over with blinding white slabs of limestone, and equipped with underground lighting, white tables and chairs, and yellow-and-white striped umbrellas.
This redesign and transformation are the work of Donald Trump himself, who has also added numerous self-portrait paintings of himself to the White House walls. The renovations have been met with mixed reactions, with some seeing them as a desperate attempt to project power and a legacy, while others view them as tacky and reminiscent of extravagant palaces of leaders like Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.
Home Depot, a possible supplier of renovation materials, has declined to comment on the matter. There has been online speculation about this, but the White House did not respond to a request for confirmation.
The opening night of The Rose Garden Club, scheduled for Thursday, was cancelled due to inclement weather. Despite the controversy, Trump has been praised for understanding the power of appearance, despite not always sharing the same taste.
The White House Rose Garden was commissioned by John F Kennedy in 1961 and played a significant role in the creation of the garden, along with his friend Bunny Mellon. The garden has been the backdrop for many iconic images, including JFK Jr as a toddler and Queen Elizabeth presenting an award.
Elon Musk claimed he was invited to a dinner at The Rose Garden Club but declined to attend. The future of these renovations remains uncertain, but one thing is clear: the White House, under Trump's leadership, is undergoing a significant change.
