Wind farm collaboration gains momentum: Progress reported in energy-consuming partnership’s venture

In the heart of Hesse, Germany, a significant local energy transition project is underway. The "Fernewald" wind park, a testament to intermunicipal cooperation, is being developed by Lintas Green Energy GmbH and Land+Forst Renewable Energies GmbH.

This project, supported by LEA Hesse, the State Energy Agency of Hesse, aims to provide clean electricity and strengthen regional value creation. Upon completion, it is estimated that the wind park will supply around 43,500 households with renewable electricity.

The wind park will be situated on areas of the municipalities of Fernwald, Buseck, and Gießen, north of Steinbach. Local participation from municipalities and citizen energy cooperatives is a focus of the project.

The implementation of the wind park is planned to be as gentle as possible, using existing paths where available and minimizing the use of valuable and partially damaged forest areas during construction. Efforts will also be made to reforest the affected areas as soon as possible after construction.

The operator company for the "Fernewald" wind park is currently being established, with up to 70% of the shares to remain with the municipalities and regional partners. Expert opinions are being completed, and further implementation steps are being prepared for the project.

The application for approval for the construction of the wind park was submitted to the government presidency in Gießen in June 2025, with construction expected to begin in 2027. The project is the result of intermunicipal cooperation among the mayors Rosenke, Ranft, and Wright.

A short film showcases the collaboration between these three municipalities in driving the energy transition forward with the "Fernewald" wind park project. While information about the founders of the operator company for the planned wind park is currently not available, the project undoubtedly marks a significant step towards a greener future for Hesse.
