Winter weather ahead for Latvia this weekend: snow and rain on the forecast
With the festive season approaching, Latvians are eagerly awaiting the weather forecast for Christmas. According to current predictions, the country is set for a mild holiday season, with no persistent frost or snow cover likely during the festive period.
On Saturday, the coast will experience winds gusting up to 20 meters per second, while inland, south-westerly winds will reach 10-15 meters per second. Rain is expected on the coast, and a small layer of snow will have already formed on Saturday morning in Vidzeme and Latgale.
Parts of Kurzeme and central parts of the country will have temperatures up to +8 C, making it a relatively warm Christmas for many. Elsewhere in Latvia, air temperatures will be between 0 and +5 C. By Sunday evening, 5-7 centimeters of snow is expected in many parts of eastern Latvia.
On Sunday, north-westerly winds will gust up to 20-24 meters per second on the coast. Throughout next week, temperatures will be mostly above freezing, with temperatures reaching +1 C to +6 C on Monday. The weather will become warmer next week, with the forecast indicating that it won't get much colder over Christmas.
Air temperatures in the eastern part of the country will be mostly between -4 C and 0 degrees at night and during the day. Snow and sleet are expected most of the time, but no specific cities in Eastern Europe are expecting a snow depth of 5-7 centimeters on Sunday evening, according to the search results.
Only a little frost will occur occasionally, and there are no predictions of a significant snowfall that would disrupt Christmas celebrations. So, it seems that Latvians can look forward to a mild and wintry Christmas this year.
