Woman pilfered cash at Memmingen airport - in mid-flight, everything gets airborne
Memmingen Airport, Germany's highest elevated commercial airport, has recently been the scene of an unusual incident. On September 7, 2025, a 59-year-old woman, a Kosovo Albanian living in Germany, allegedly committed a theft during a hand luggage check.
The incident, which was captured on CCTV footage, involved the suspect stealing several hundred euros in cash. The border police at Memmingen Airport, responsible for combating smuggling, forgery, and property crimes, were quick to respond. The officers involved in the case contacted their counterparts at the destination airport in Pristina, Kosovo, to aid in the investigation.
The suspect was on a Wizzair flight to Pristina at the time of the incident. Local authorities in Pristina are now also involved in the case, working alongside the German police to track down the woman.
Memmingen Airport, which opened in 2004 and spans an area of 207 hectares, serves several hundred thousand passengers each year. The airport, operated by Memmingen Airport GmbH, has one terminal and is served by airlines such as Ryanair, Wizz Air, Eurowings, Aegean Airlines, Freebird, Avanti Air, and GP Aviation.
In 2024, Memmingen Airport had 3,242,090 passengers, a testament to its growing importance in the aviation industry. A new service building is currently under construction on the airport grounds, further expanding its facilities.
