Work to be accomplished by the Mountain Protectors
In the picturesque Saxon Switzerland, the Mountain Rescue Service found itself in high demand during the first half of September. On September 8th and 9th, the team responded to several incidents that required their immediate attention.
On September 9th, a medical emergency unfolded on the Malerweg in Diebeshöhle am Quirl near Königstein. The identity of the 17-year-old who required increased medical assistance remains undisclosed. The tourist had suffered an arm injury after falling on the Quirl promenade near the Horse Trough.
The previous day, on September 8th, the Mountain Rescue Service also responded to an incident involving a 58-year-old Belgian tourist. The nature of this incident is not detailed, but it required the team's intervention. They transported the tourist to an ambulance for further medical care.
The incidents near the Quirl were distinct from those that occurred in Schwedenlöcher or on the hiking trail to the Bastei. The latter did not involve any tourists, unlike the incident with the 58-year-old Belgian tourist. Instead, these incidents involved hikers experiencing circulation problems and minor injuries. The Mountain Rescue Service provided assistance to these hikers, but none of them needed to be carried out on a stretcher or transported to an ambulance.
The 17-year-old who was injured on September 9th, however, had to be carried out of the forest on a mountain rescue stretcher. The cause of her medical issues appears to have been the consumption of contaminated water earlier in the day.
These incidents in Schwedenlöcher or on the hiking trail to the Bastei were separate from the one near the Quirl. The location of the incidents varied, underscoring the diverse terrain and challenges that the Mountain Rescue Service encounters in their work.
Despite the multiple incidents, the Mountain Rescue Service continued to be a pillar of support for hikers and tourists in the region, ensuring safety and providing aid where needed.
