World's Most Popular Vehicles of 2024 Unveiled: Hybrid SUV Takes the Crown, Overtaking Tesla - Check Out the Complete Ranking
In the dynamic world of automotive manufacturing, some models have proven to be the undisputed favourites among consumers. A closer look at the best-selling vehicles of 2024 reveals an interesting trend - five models from Toyota having made it to the top 10 list.
The Toyota RAV4, known as the Wildlander in China, claimed the top spot as the world's favourite compact SUV. The versatile and reliable vehicle, now available with hybrid options, sold a staggering 1,187,000 units in 2024, marking an impressive 11% increase. The RAV4's strong resale value and fewer issues compared to other SUVs have made it a preferred choice for many.
Toyota's success story continues with the Corolla Cross/Frontlander, another compact SUV, which saw an 18% increase in sales, selling 859,000 units in 2024. Despite a slight 11% decrease in sales, the Toyota Corolla, a compact car, still managed to secure the 9th spot on the list.
The Toyota Hilux, a popular pickup truck, maintained its strong presence in regions such as Africa, Australia, and South America, selling 617,000 units in 2024, albeit showing a 15% decrease compared to the previous year.
While Toyota dominated the list, other manufacturers also made their mark. The Honda CR-V, a compact SUV, accounted for more than half of its total production in the US in 2024, selling 854,000 units, showing a 1% increase. The Ford F-150, a truck, held the 7th position with 843,000 units sold, demonstrating a consistent performance.
The rise of electric vehicles (EVs) is undeniable, with manufacturers like Tesla and BYD continuing to gain market share. The Tesla Model 3, an electric saloon, climbed from the 10th spot in 2023 to the 9th overall in 2024. The BYD Qin, a compact saloon available as both a plug-in hybrid and a full EV, also made it to the top 10, selling 697,000 units in 2024, primarily in China, with only a few exported overseas.
Despite the growing popularity of EVs, cars with internal combustion engines still dominate the market, underscoring the enduring appeal of traditional vehicles. As we move forward, it will be interesting to see how the landscape of the automotive industry continues to evolve.
