Worldwide Health Situation
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, a German political foundation, has become an active player in the global health arena, focusing on a wide range of issues that impact public health and healthcare systems worldwide. Based in Geneva, near the World Health Organization (WHO) headquarters, the foundation's work extends beyond the WHO, involving collaborations with organisations such as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and numerous others engaged in pandemic response, health research, and healthcare system resilience.
Each year, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung takes part in the World Health Summit, an international conference on global health that gathers over 3,000 people from politics, science, the private sector, and NGOs. The foundation has been represented with an official side event at the World Health Summit since 2022.
The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung's Working Group Global Health, established in 2019, is a network of experts on global health and related issues. This group discusses topics such as the impact and benefits of digitalization and AI for global health, women's health, the current status of negotiations on an international pandemic agreement, inter-sectoral health partnerships, artificial intelligence and health systems, medicine shortages, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), Europe as a global health actor, and innovation and diagnostics.
The foundation is actively engaged in political and societal debates on global health issues, including the international pandemic treaty, women's health, and Europe's role as a global health actor. Moreover, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung promotes prevention and education to protect public health and future generations, with a particular focus on issues like cannabis legalization and its social and political impacts.
The Working Group Global Health aims to continue dialogue on current global health issues and provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and opinions. By working closely with actors from politics, industry, science, international organizations, and non-governmental organizations, the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung seeks to drive meaningful change and advancements in global health.
