Wuthering Heights: Character Lineup, Premiere Date, Synopsis, and Insights on the Romantic Drama Starring Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie

In the upcoming adaptation of Emily Bronte's classic novel, "Wuthering Heights," Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi will bring Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff to life on the silver screen. However, Elordi's casting as Heathcliff has sparked controversy due to his appearance not matching the novel's description of a dark-skinned character.

Despite the controversy, Margot Robbie's casting as Catherine Earnshaw has not been a point of contention. The movie features Owen Cooper as young Heathcliff and Charlotte Mellington as young Cathy, with Shazad Latif and Alison Oliver appearing in pivotal roles.

The casting director, Kharmel Cochrane, defended the casting decision, stating that the movie is not based on real life and it's just art. Cochrane's view is that accuracy is not necessary for the adaptation of the book.

The teaser for the movie, released on September 3, has gone viral after its release, offering a glimpse into director Emerald Fennell's reimagining of the Bronte classic. The video is set to a remix of Charli XCX's "Everything is romantic."

The teaser features scenes of Cathy in a wedding dress and shots of corsets being tightened and cut away with scissors, as well as steamy scenes and dialogue like "I can follow you like a dog to the end of the world."

A section of fans has expressed disapproval over Elordi's casting as Heathcliff, but the controversy does not seem to have affected the overall anticipation for the movie. The Warner Bros. romantic drama will hit cinemas on Valentine's Day, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

The plot of the movie centers on the orphan Heathcliff, who is taken in by the Earnshaw family and develops an obsessive love for Catherine (Cathy). After Catherine is separated from Heathcliff due to social status and forced into marriage, Heathcliff returns years later as a wealthy man to seek revenge on those who stood in the way of their love.

There are no indications of any other cast members being a subject of controversy. The movie "Wuthering Heights" will be released in cinemas on February 13, 2026.
