In a significant development, the Iran-aligned Houthi group in Yemen declared their solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, as senior Houthi official Abdul Qader al-Murtada stated that they would continue to act in unity with their brethren in Gaza, "whatever the sacrifices."

This declaration came days after the Houthis claimed they had fired a ballistic missile towards Israel, an action that has become a recurring pattern over the past year. However, the type of missile launched in this instance remains unspecified.

The Israeli military responded to the Houthi missile attack with a series of strikes on Sunday, targeting military compounds, two power plants, a fuel storage site, and infrastructure near the presidential palace in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a. It is not explicitly stated that a new type of missile was used by Israel, but the Houthi-launched rocket attacking Israel days before reportedly contained cluster munitions, marking one of the first uses of this kind of warhead by the Houthis in these attacks.

In a concerning turn of events, the Houthi-launched missile on this occasion was not intercepted, unlike most previous ones. The Israeli Air Force official stated that the missile most likely carried several sub-munitions.

The Houthi-controlled Saba news agency reported that the strikes resulted in at least two fatalities and five injuries.

This latest escalation in the conflict between Israel and the Houthis is part of over a year of direct attacks and counterstrikes. The Houthi actions in Yemen are a continuation of their support for Palestinians in Gaza, as they have been attacking vessels in the Red Sea in solidarity with Palestinians since October 2023.

Israel's responses to these Houthi attacks have included strikes on Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen, including the vital Hodeidah port. The Israeli military stated that the strikes were in response to repeated attacks by the Houthi terrorist regime.

The attacks are a spillover from the war in Gaza, and al-Murtada's statement underscores the Houthis' unwavering commitment to their allies in Palestine. The international community is urged to take notice of this escalating conflict and work towards a peaceful resolution to prevent further loss of life and destruction.
