Young Chamber Orchestra Bamberg Wins Third Prize at German Orchestra Competition
The Young Chamber Orchestra Bamberg has made history, securing a third prize at the prestigious German Orchestra Competition. The competition, held every four years, took place from June 14 to 18 in Wiesbaden, Mainz, and Ingelheim.
In a field of 96 orchestras with approximately 4,000 musicians, the Young Chamber Orchestra Bamberg stood out, beating strong competition from across Germany. The ensemble, led by Cezar Salem, competed in 17 different categories and clinched the win in the Youth Chamber Orchestra category.
Orchestras from Hannover, Hamburg, Müritz, Potsdam, and the Music Gymnasium of Rhineland-Palatinate did not win any prizes. Only the Young Chamber Orchestra Stuttgart (second prize) and the Puchheim Youth Chamber Orchestra (first prize) performed better.
Bernd Sibler, President of the Bavarian Music Council and former Bavarian Minister of Science and the Arts until 2022, was among the congratulatory speakers. At a reception held at the Maxplatz Town Hall, he praised the Young Chamber Orchestra Bamberg for representing Bavaria at the national level and setting a strong mark for the quality and diversity of the Bavarian orchestra landscape with their performance.
Mayor Andreas Starke also attended the reception to celebrate the Young Chamber Orchestra Bamberg's achievement. The win comes after the ensemble qualified for the German Orchestra Competition at the Bavarian Orchestra Competition on November 17, 2024, at the BR broadcasting house in Munich.
While the search results do not specifically mention the president of the Bayerischer Musikrat participating in the ceremony for the German Orchestra Competition, it is worth noting that Bernd Sibler recently wrote an open letter to the Freising Bishop's Conference. His involvement in the celebration of the Young Chamber Orchestra Bamberg's win underscores his continued commitment to promoting music and the arts in Bavaria.
