In the small town of Volklingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, a tragic incident occurred on August 21 that claimed the life of a 34-year-old police officer named Simon Bohr. The officer was shot during an attempt to apprehend a suspect involved in a gas station robbery.

The suspect, an 18-year-old individual, was also injured during the incident and received treatment in the hospital. According to the public prosecutor's office, the suspect wrested a police officer's service weapon during a struggle and shot Officer Bohr six times.

The suspect is now no longer in critical condition and can receive further medical treatment in prison. The public prosecutor's office has confirmed the transfer of the suspect from the hospital to a prison clinic.

The 18-year-old is being investigated for aggravated robbery, murder, and two counts of attempted murder. The suspect is expected to face youth criminal law consequences, with a maximum sentence of 15 years.

Following the death of Officer Bohr, North Rhine-Westphalia has changed its handling of offender data to enhance police safety and efficiency. The exact nature of these changes remains undisclosed.
